Practical Post:

I gotta move some Luffas - Jeanine (one of our extensionists) informs us
that "The fibrous interiors of fruits from the luffa sponge gourd plant
(Luffa aegyptiaca) are primarily used in this [USofA] country as bath
sponges but they also make good household cleaning products". She also
says that "The tough fibers can also be processed into industrial
products such as filters, insulation and packing materials", and "Crafts
people have designed many useful and attractive items using luffa
sponges and may need a fairly large supply", that "Companies promoting
environmentally safe products may be interested in selling luffa sponges
as bath and household products"; and "All of these products are
biodegradable and could be used to replace similar petrochemical based
products."

Another source tells me that many oriental peoples eat immature luffas
as a vegetable.

So - I gotta market some luffas. Any concrete responses relative to
existing channels for any of the above uses that I could follow up?
Remember - Luffa use is sustainable! (In fact, the luffas in question
WERE grown organically).

Be advised - Do not read below if you're uptight. What follows is not at all.practical. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Just in case somebody failed to notice, the above post was for hard core realists only - none of them new age dreamer BS list stuff people need bother reading it - This is about MONEY! You know, real man talk.

I had to write that - but will try not to send it.

Sorry, I had to send it. My heart knows what the wild goose knows, and I must go where the wild goose goes .... but PLEASE, DON¨T make me go to the BS List. If's it's real BS, don't stir it - shove-l it.

Now for a little REAL BS comic relief. (WARNING! REALISTS BEWARE - REALLY STINKY BS BELOW)!

The arrogant and the enlighted - are they one and the same?

If PR is for practical (it certainly couldn't be for Pain-in-the-ass &/0r Redneck), and BS is for ... (we weren't told - could it be Bachelors of Science? Beautifully Sustainable? Biologically Sane? Bovine Shirtilizer?), will one the realists (Is it realist or royalist?) please tell me which list **I** belong on? And while he or she's at it [are there any female realists subscribed? Are there any female realists?], I'm sure what we'd all REALLY like is a clear and precise definition of what's real and what isn't. That would solve a lot of problems for everyone. Is this thread a repeat of the baby, the two "mommies" & King Solomon)?

Responses are welcome only in relation the to the Luffa matter. All others can respond to their own private BS list. There it is - Each with his own list!! Hey!

Just in case any of you realists disregarded my warning and went ahead and read this - I really love you guys - you crack me up! You're better than Eddie Murphy! Please, don't go! (Wild geese don't goosestep when they march - in fact we don't march, we fly, and some times in unison)! I only do this after hours. Remember, it's my connection w/ the "outside" (farout, forking) world.

Think Luffas - I don't want any BS - not even realist BS.

Regarding the no till thread: It seems clear to me that orchards are ideally suited to permanent ground cover. It also seems clear that orchards are by nature (use of space & quality of product) highly efficient. And for those of you who do animals, they also combine well with many kinds of animals (someone mentioned ducks, but lots of grazing animals will leave the economic food crop trees pretty much alone, and keep the ground clear enough to be practical - but you need to have access to specific information. I'm been told avocado leaves can kill horses for instance, but I've known many cases where it's been done w/o problems. And mocha leaves should be somewhat dry before being fed to livestock). There should be lots of further information available.

Anecdote: I had a horse I'd throw banana peels to. Can you believe I've seen him pull down ripe banana bunches, rip off a ripe banana with his teeth and shake it untill the banana fell out so he could eat the peel? Lesson: 1).- Horses too (like people) are creatures of habit and sometimes not too smart, and 2).- Banana groves are not good places to graze horses, although coconut groves are fine.
