I think that your thoughts are shared by a large portion of the =
sustainable and organic consumers.
But I think out here in the midwest, you are going to have a hard time =
putting together a sustainable=20
agriculture without livestock.
We are coming back to my question I like to ask too frequently. What =
defines sustainability? Profitability has to be at the top of the list =
or we are building systems that aren't going to be carried on by future =
generations. Is US agriculture sustainable if we get rid of the crop =
producers AND the livestock producers? We need production systems that =
are PROFITABLE, don't degrade the environment, and build strong rural =
communities. Can we have that without a vibrant livestock industry? I =
think not in the midwest. =20
Best wishes,

Right on - or, to take it further, what's wrong with cutting back on =
our meat consumption, since most of our corn goes to feed meat-animals?

Um, hate to sound simplistic here, but...

We grow too much corn and beans! Get the cattle and hay and =
pasture and manure back to places like, ta-da...Iowa. Was it ever that =
way once or did we just dream it?
=20
What's wrong with gettin' all those ruminant doggies on =
(rotational) pastures and off those stinking mega feedlots. Oh, well, I =
mean besides big companies making big money just the ways things are.

Was that a good fist post to sanet? I heard sanet was just a =
