It's also sometimes true that marketing departments in seed companies
prevail over QC people in order to hurry a market entry out the door... to
do that, they push for relaxed standards in seed grow-out.... especially
those seed companies that are trying to gain market share rapidly. I think
this has been evident in the TopCross (Reg. Trdmk) system for High Oil Corn
growing. Mis-matched pollinators and sterile-male grain producing plants as
well as marginally acceptable seed ratios probably contributed greatly to
producer disenchantment the past few seasons. It seems like it'd be easy
enough to fall prey to that temptation in bt corn....
