I had the skin-test many years ago when the bee-serum and the test
first became available. I had been stung enough times and with
sufficient reaction to be concerned about sensitivity, and the skin
scratch-test indicated hypersensitivity to several kind of bee and
hornet stings (but not to all). The test was administered by an
allergist, who swore by its accuracy. I've heard it similarly
vouched for by other doctors.
I've carried an epi-pen since, and my doctor doesn't have any
difficulty renewing the prescription. He says that he has several
patients who use these . . . and the fact that my last sting did not
lead to crisis is no indicator that the next one will not.
