REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ABOUT FARMER-LED BREEDING OR CULTIVAR
TESTING PROGRAMS IN THE U.S. OR CANADA.
Participatory plant breeding (PPB) programs are farmer-driven
variety selection or breeding programs. Most case studies of PPB have
focused solely on examples from developingcountries. For an upcoming
book on the subject planned by the Dutch Gene Bank, I'm trying to
document examples of farmer-initiated or farmer-led breeding or
variety testing programs in North America. I suspect there may be
groups of organic growers who have joined forces to test older
cultivars or their own selections for use in organic or low-input
production systems. I would be very grateful if anyone could put me
in touch with such a group. Please contact:
