Food Safety Risk Assessment: Users and Needs
Friday August 7, 1998, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sponsored by: The Risk Assessment Consortium and the Joint Institute
for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition in support of the President's
Food Safety Initiative.
Plan to attend this useful introduction to the role of risk assessment
in food safety. Help us understand your needs for risk assessment
information through an interesting and enjoyable day of interactive
discussions that will assist us in developing a helpful, user-friendly
risk assessment information clearinghouse. We will provide an
overview of risk assessment and risk analysis, including background
information, terminology, approaches, and current and potential food
use applications. Through an open forum, we will be soliciting input
into your needs and expectations of a clearinghouse. The information
obtained at this meeting will be used to help develop a framework for
the scope of further clearinghouse activities.

9:10 - 9:30 Keynote Speaker: Dr. Catherine Woteki, Undersecretary for
Food Safety, USDA 9:30 - 10:30 Overview of Risk Assessment -Charlie
Yoe 10:45 - noon Panel Presentations and Discussion. Panelists will
address the question "How do you use risk assessment to improve food
safety?"

potential users will be solicited from focus groups and other

and delivery systems including researchers, educators, university
affiliates, public health authorities, food producers, processors,
distributors, food service professionals, consumers, trade
associations, public policy organizations, agriculture organizations,
and those interested in risk analysis related to food safety.
