Frank,
I think replacing commercial nitrogen sources(urea, liquid 28, anhydrous,
etc.) is
a continous battle for sustainable farms that choose to produce nitrogen
loving crops
such as corn, small grains, grass, etc.
Nitrogen fixing crops in rotations and animal manure is part of my
strategy to reduce nitrogen needs. I always try some corn without nitrogen
applications and the yields and economics just aren't there.
Best wishes,
Greg
