ORGANIC LIVESTOCK MARKETING WORKSHOP JULY 29 IN SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA

HOUSTON, Minn. Ñ Farmers, marketing experts and organic inspectors will crack
open the mysteries of USDA requirements for producing, processing and marketing
organic meat July 29 at the Ralph and Marianne Zerbe and John Jordan farm, near
Houston, Minn. The fee for the workshop, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30
p.m., is $5 ($4 for Land Stewardship Project members). The fee covers lunch and
informational handouts. To register, call the Land Stewardship Project at (507)
523-3366. The farm is eight miles south of I-90 on State Highway 76; at mile
marker 29 head east and go about 1 1/2 miles to third farm at the bottom of the
hill.

Topics of this workshop will include processing requirements, humane handling
systems, grading, and target pricing to maximize a farmerÕs bottom line. This
workshop and tour will clarify livestockÕs role in supporting a healthy organic
system, completing the nutrient cycle and contributing to a complete whole farm
plan.

Presenters will include Pam Saunders, a beef farmer and coordinator of the
Coulee Region Organic Producer Pool (CROPP); Joyce Ford, organic certifier; and
Ken Knight, owner of Knightro Powered Marketing and a consultant to CROPP.
