Applications and nominations are solicited for the position of Chair of
the Department of Environmental and Population Health, Tufts University
School of Veterinary Medicine. This Department was recently formed with
18 full-time faculty members to address, in an academic setting, growing
concerns about environmental quality associated with biodiversity,
ecosystem health, sustainable agriculture, wildlife conservation, and
animal well being. The Department offers four of the five signature
programs of the School: Veterinary Ethics and Values, International
Veterinary Medicine, Wildlife Medicine, and Veterinary Biotechnology. Two
of the School's three centers are located in the Department: the Center
for Animals and Public Policy and the Center for Conservation Medicine.
Activities of the faculty include instruction in veterinary and graduate
degree (MS) programs, research activities, and participation in clinical
service in wildlife, laboratory animal, and large animal ambulatory
medicine.
The selected person should have demonstrated leadership and extramural
fund-raising abilities. Preference will be given to individuals who have
expertise in environmental sciences/policy, conservation medicine and/or
population health and have experience in veterinary medical/biomedical
teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership
in professional and graduate education, facilitate faculty development in
areas of teaching, research and service, and foster the development of e
nvironmental health and conservation medicine as major research,
education, and public policy focuses of the School. An advanced degree is
required. D.V.M.s as well as non-D.V.M.s are encouraged to apply. Review
