TO: those with an interest in organic standards

Last week in Ottawa, the FAO Codex Alimentarius
committee on food labelling considered revisions to draft
standards for organically produced foods. A new draft standard
was produced last week and it will continue to evolve over the
next year. It will eventually become an international standard
for the purposes of labelling of organic food.

In order to help get information on the standards out, EAP
has made the latest draft (as of May 27, 1998)
available on the web. The document was
scanned from a paper copy and may contain a typo here or there,
so please bear with us !

You can find it throught the main EAP web site at:

www.eap.mcgill.ca

Or, you can go directly to the document at:

http://www.eap.mcgill.ca/Codex_Alimentarius/Codex_main.htm

Note: regarding how the web document differs from the hard copy

1. text that is stroked out on the hard copy appears in red italics
2. highlighted text appears in bold with underline

Stroked out text is text that appeared in the previous draft, but is
to be deleted. Highlighted text is text that is new to the draft.

thanks to Spiros and Debra for getting this online
