On this site you can find excerpts from the mythic cycle of the
descent of the Sumerian goddess Inanna into the underworld. A truly
wonderful story steeped in agricultural history (it starts out, for
example, with her choosing a consort, and her intense anger at being
handed a herdsman, rather than a farmer--an artefact of the shift in
Sumeria from grain to animal husbandry as the source of wealth).

And on that note, let's all resolve to save a handful of old variety
seed this year, in honor of all we don't know about all we think we
do.
