Hi all -

Well, after months of hard work, it's finally available - the first
resource Guide to Northern California's organics! Local organic food,
wine, beer and related goodies all together in one handy, well-organized
reference book. An overview map of places for easy planning, then the
contact information, hours, directions, etc. for each place. Assorted
information and resources. Makes it incredibly easy for both locals and
travelers here to explore and be nourished by local organics! (Plus it
promotes and supports local organic agriculture, and thus a healthier,
less-toxic environment for us all.)

Copies of the Guide should be appearing in local stores (ask for it if you
don't see it!; and please let me know if you want to carry it) or you can
order copies directly from me. See the press release below for more
information.

** Please pass the word on this exciting new resource to others you think
might be interested.**

And please let me know if you have any questions or want additional
information, including info about being in future versions of this Guide.
We might do an expanded version later this year.

Thanks for all your support of this work to help create a less-toxic
future, and for your assistance in getting the word out about this exciting
new win-win project!

Best regards,

P. S. Good job everyone in writing all your letters to the USDA to
preserve true organic standards. Apparently the USDA received the most
letters they ever have on a proposed rule!! Now they're in the process of
deciding their response. It's still good to contact your legislators and
the President to let them know this issue is important to you, so they'll
act for true organics and keep the pressure on the USDA to do the same. In
the meantime, it's vital that we continue buying and supporting the true
organic food we now have available - to nourish ourselves, and to show our
continued support for this community that brings us such great food - and a
path to a better future for us all!

>>> NEW RESOURCE GUIDE FOR WINE COUNTRY ORGANICS ANNOUNCED

CALIFORNIA- Just north of San Francisco, Northern California's Wine Country
attracts millions of travelers a year, who come from near and far to enjoy
the area's special food, wine, and natural wonders.

But few visitors (or even locals) know that this area also contains
one of the most thriving and diverse organic communities in the United
States.

Highlighting this fact - and making it a lot easier for people to
explore and be nourished by this area's organic food and wine - is a new
Guide just released this April, "The Organic Traveler's Guide to the Wine
Country."

This innovative new resource guide - the first of its kind - is
brimming with information on organic resources in Sonoma, Napa, and
Mendocino Counties, including farms, restaurants, wineries, breweries,
stores, and nurseries. Also highlighted are lodging, retreats, educational
opportunities, organic catering, and more. With an overview map plus the
address, phone number, hours, and directions for each place, discovering
this area's organic treasures becomes a breeze.

"Consumers, locally and nationally, have demonstrated their strong and
steadily increasing commitment to organic food and agriculture." says
Patricia Dines, President of Community Action Publications, publishers of
the Guide. "Making our area's wonderful organic resources easily accessible
to travelers (and locals!) provides people with delicious food and
memorable experiences, while supporting local organic agriculture and
helping create a less-toxic environment for us all."

To get your very own copy of "The Organic Traveler's Guide to the Wine
Country" and add delight to your travel this summer and year round, look in
retail stores or send $5 to Community Action Publications, 6984 McKinley
St., Suite 60-E, Sebastopol, CA 95472. Also available is "The Organic
Traveler's Guide Wine Reference Card", a handy wallet-sized reference card
showing area wines from organically-grown grapes, only $2.50; and a
"Support Organic Farmers" bumpersticker, only $1.

For information on quantity discounts and having these items available
through your store or organization, or for information about being in
future versions, call Patricia Dines at (707) 829-2999.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

All across the country and the world, consumers are increasingly
buying organic food and wine - products grown by nurturing the land and
supporting nature's self-balancing mechanisms, instead of using toxic
pesticides. According to the Organic Trade Association (OTA), organic food
sales totalled $3.5 billion in 1996 and the market has been growing at
least 20% a year for the past seven years. People are choosing organics
for their health, for our shared environment - and often for the taste!
Many top chefs use organics for the delicious flavor that organics can
bring to their cooking.

Community Action Publications (CAP) develops and distributes useful
information about toxics and their alternatives, in order to support
constructive citizen and consumer action towards a healthier, more
enjoyable world for us all. CAP's projects have included producing the
popular "Sonoma County Directory of Alternatives to Toxic Products and
Services." CAP President Patricia Dines has extensive experience as an
educator and a writer.
