It's become painfully obvious the USDA, FDA, and EPA are doing nothing to
stop the rapid proliferation of genetically-engineered crops, and are
unwilling to require labelling so there is choice in the marketplace.
We're asking our shareholders to use the following letter to write the
companies that make their favorite products. It's our feeling that if this
becomes a marketplace issue, we may get the kind of labelling we long for.
Best of all worlds, the market for genetically-engineered crops would dry
up (ha!) Those of you with kids might try re-working this letter to your
local school board about the food in the cafeteria.
Because the letter asks for a response, we hope it will have more impact
than one which doesn't. Please feel free to post this in as many places as
possible if you think it might be useful.

Dear (Company name or corporate contact)
My family and I use your (product name) We always believed it to be a
wholesome product that would contribute positively to the health of our
family. (describe what you like about the product - freshness, flavor,
convenience, etc.)
Recently, we've become increasingly concerned about the growing level of
genetically-engineered components in the food supply. We believe these
components are harmful to the environment, irresponsible, and potentially
life-threatening. Oil seed crops are our biggest concern. Soy, canola,
cotton, and corn are all affected. The gene for herbicide resistance means
more chemicals are used on these crops and more residues accumulated.
Cross species gene splicing creates the potential for allergic reactions
not previously manifested. The insertion of bacterial genes into these
crops is particularly disturbing, especially the marker gene most commonly
used, an antibiotic resistant E. coli gene. Genetically-engineered
tomatoes, potatoes, wheat, yellow squash, and even apples are either on the
market or will be arriving within the next few years.
For our own health, and that of the environment, we've made the decision in
our house not to consume products made with genetically-engineered
components. Since we use your (name of product), we'd like to know what
(company name) is doing to ensure genetically-engineered components are not
used in the manufacture of your products. Please let us know as soon as
possible so we may continue our long-standing relationship with (company
name)
