Graduate programs

I am looking for graduate programs which approach the issues of sustainable
agriculture from a social scientist's perspective. What does one study to
document and address the issues facing small farmers? the increased
desertification or "cementization" of our agricultural heritage (US and
global)? Who are the rural sociologists, geographers, anthropologists,
sociologists, politicos that are interested in these issues? Should one
study "mainstream" Agricultural Economics, or are there interesing
alternative programs out there? Related policy programs?

I am in the beginning phase of a serious search for the right folks to
study with. Please direct me any which way (except towards soil
science...). All leads are appreciated. Pointers to related
organizations/institutions also encouraged

There are a growing number of programs at land-grant and other universities
that are more tech-based. I am more inclined toward the theoretical and
cultural factors. I know of Tuft's Food, Agriculture and Environment
program and of the Rural Sociology departments at Madison and Cornell.
There must be others! Someone in Minnesota? California? Nebraska? Europe?
Australia? Geographically, I'm wide open [currently limited only by my
English and German language abilities.] I'm looking for the program or
professor that is "just right."

Thank you!!
