1999 USDA Scientific Cooperation Program. This Program is managed by
the Research and Scientific Exchange Division, International Cooperation and
Development, Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), USDA. The Program promotes
international cooperation in agriculture and forestry to attain mutual benefit
through short-term visits and research projects. Proposals must be submitted
from the U.S. side and are accepted from U.S. university and USDA scientists,
as well as non-profit private organizations. The 1999 program solicits proposals
in the following five target subject areas (not listed in priority order):
(1) Value-Added New Products and Associated Topics;
(2) Collection, Preservation, and Characterization of Plants, Animal,
and Microbial Germplasm; (3) Environment and Natural Resources;
(4) Food, Nutrition, and Health Concerns; and 5) International Co
mmerce. The Proposals Guidelines may be attained from Helen Niel,
RSED/ICD/FAS/USDA, Room 3230, South Building, 1400 Independence
Avenue, SW, Stop 1091, Washington, DC 20250-1091; FAX (202) 690-1955;
E-Mail: neil@fas.usda.gov. Submission deadline for proposals is
September 1, 1998.
Universities submitting proposals are encouraged to send copies to

represent universities' interests with FAS.
