What is local??

I've got several replies on my feed question. My mind was made up before I sent the post. I'll
share my thoughts on that in a later post..
Just wanted to pass the feed situation along as a dilema in the road to sustainability.
Now I've got an even more basic question.

What is local?
Is purchasing an out of state(largest feed producer in the US) at a nearby family run feed mill a local product?

Is purchasing a product made in my home town at the nearby Wal-mart buying local?

Or is purchasing a product made in China at my home town family hardware buying local?

Or is purchasing a US product direct from the factory 200 miles from home buying local?

I'm not sure we have the infastructure left to purchase very many products that are truly local by my
definition of local.
