I hesitated to raise the Iraq issue, I did expect some gentle admonition such
as Michelle's, or perhaps stonger. So here's my chance to make a bigger
point.
<Betty Gras made some excellent points in her note about the political
situation with Iraq.>
<At the same time, I reeeaaaalllly hope that I don't come back from
UMOFC to a bunch of traffic on this. This is a sustainable
agriculture list server, and this feels like it's getting waaaaay
off topic and could start, um, a firestorm. Action on the draft
organic standards I can see as related to sustainable ag in a fairly
direct way; Betty, I think there are other list servers to deal with
the Iraq issue. If there were some very explicit sustag tie-in, I'd
feel less reluctant about it. But.>
To me, the tie-in is clear. I see and support the Sustainable Agriculture
movement because it's working to protect the interests of everybody who eats
or wants to, now and in the future. That means Everybody. And I believe
what happens in Iraq will have an effect on everybody who wants to live in a
world at peace, now and in the future. I like to think that means
Everybody.
