Sustainable Agriculture Program Manager
AERO (Alternative Energy Resources Organization) is a nonprofit membership
organization based in Helena, Montana, which serves the Rocky Mountain and
High Plains West of the northern U.S. and southern Canada. AERO is a
widespread community of people creating social, economic and environmental
health—one farm, one neighborhood, one community at a time.
This full-time position manages and develops AERO’s sustainable
agriculture program, which works to sustain agriculture and communities,
and localize the food system. This position is responsible to the
executive director and AERO’s 600-plus members, particularly its
agriculture task force, which sets agriculture program direction.
Duties and Responsibilites:
° Program management, administration, project implementation. Provides
opportunities for member leadership and participation.
° Program development and fundraising. Identifies funders, writes grant
proposals and reports, and seeks some non-grant funding. Networks with
relevant individuals and organizations.
° Member and leadership development, member services, information
management, outreach.
Desired Qualifications:
° Knowledge, experience: Knowledge of sustainable and conventional
agriculture (preferably in the West), and local food systems. Experience
working with farmers and communities of people, helping translate their
vision into action. Program development and management (min. 2 yrs
required).
° Skills, abilities: Excellent writing and oral communication; good media
and public education skills. Computer skills (Mac preferred).
Grant-writing and reporting. Knowledge of relevant funders. Supervisory
and team management abilities. Manage budgets and other project resources.
Event organizing, facilitation.
° Personal characteristics: Passion for and vision of sustainable
agriculture, local/regional food systems and rural communities. Commitment
to community-based leadership.
Compensation: In the 20s, comensurate with experience. Generous benefits.
