The sixth session of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable
Development (CSD) will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New
York, April 20 to May 1, 1998. The Commission will focus discussions this
year on freshwater resources, industry for sustainable development, and
technology transfer. These informal, NGO discussions are being held to
receive input and ideas on these topics prior to the first intersessional
February 23-March 6, 1998. Government agencies that will be present
include Departments of State, Commerce, Energy, Agriculture, and the
Environmental Protection Agency. USDA is interested in hearing the issues
of interested U.S. non-governmental organizations and receiving comments
and suggestions on how this year's focus issues relate to sustainable
agriculture and forestry, and sustainable land management.
