OEFFA Announces Organic Farm Internship Program

Students looking for an innovative way to learn traditional
agricultural methods will have the opportunity to do so through the Ohio
Ecological Food and Farm Association's Apprenticeship Program. The Program
highlights low input and organic farms across Ohio, giving students the
unique opportunity to live, work and learn on an organic farm. The program
matches interns to farmers sharing similar interests, and helps farmers
pass along a stewardship ethic to the younger generation.

"This program provides people with the opportunity to earn
experience working on an organic farm before venturing out on their own,"
says Harv Roehling, OEFFA President. "It also offers beginning farmers a
way to get involved in agriculture without the significant capital input
required to own and operate a conventional farm."

The program is open to any applicant 18 years of age or older.
Farm experience is not required. Applicants will receive applications from
Organic farms in Ohio seeking apprentices. The farmer and intern
determine the nature of the working relationship, including compensation,
lodging, and hours of work. A non-refundable application fee of $15 must
accompany application. Applications should be received by February 1,
1998.

OEFFA is a non profit organization and was founded in 1979 as a
broad based membership association of farmers, gardeners, and consumers
working together to promote a sustainable, permanent, accountable, and
healthful agriculture in Ohio. We support wider study and adoption of
resource conserving farm and garden practices, preservation of family
farms, the use of appropriate technology, greater regional food self
reliance, and the wise development of our rural and urban landscape.
