Dear Betty,

I (thankfully) never saw that ad. I, too, can get fearful and discouraged,
especially about agribusiness, chemical/seed company consolidation, and
genetic engineering. I expouse the adult position "just 'cause ya can, don't
mean ya oughta."

Someone once asked Mother Theresa how she kept from being overwhelmed by the
task around her. She responded "I just do what's in front of me." When I
feel overwhelmed, I try to remember that.

Mother Theresa, Gandi, Rachel Carson, Mother Hale, Martin Luther KIng,
Jacques Cousteau, Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Frank Chapman(Christmas bird
count,) and many, many more were all one person articulating a powerful idea
in a passionate way. All major religions had great teachers/Messiahs who
articulated views person-by-person, vilage-by-village, at a time when
communication was by minstrel and runner. Remember that TV ad " I told a
friend and she told two friends and so one ad so on and so one" until the
screen was filled with people? This is what we need to do. It wouldn't hurt
to forward some of the more one-point posts here and in other forums to your
local representative or senator.
