JOB TITLE: Macro-Economist
APPROXIMATE GRADE RANGE: GS-14
START DATE: ASAP (for 1-year duration)
Foreign Agricultural Service; International Cooperation and
Development; Development Resources Divsion; Africa, Asia, and Europe
Branch is seeking a GS-14, Macro-Economist, for a Washington-based detail
with the U.S. Agency for International Development, Bureau for Africa, Office
of Sustainable Development, Strategic Analysis Division (USAID/AFR/SD/SA).
One strategic objective (SO) of AFR/SD is to improve policies, programs, and
strategies for sustainable economic growth. The Equity and Growth through
Economic Research (EAGER) activities are critical elements of the Results
Package designed to accomplish this SO. EAGER is a capacity
building, institutional support, policy research ad analysis, and
information dissemination activity. In pursuit of this SO, EAGER undertakes
and supports economic and social analysis and research in
Sub-Saharan Africa and the development of country and regional strategies
and policies, provides technical assistance, and disseminates
research results to support sustainable economic growth. The
Macro-Economist will play a key analytical and advisory role in the
implementation of EAGER activities. These activities will lead to enhanced
policy research and analysis capability for better-informed economic
decision making in African countries. A high priority will be placed on
disseminating results of ongoing research, directly through workshops,
conferences, and one-on-one contacts with African policy makers
and USAID missions, as well as indirectly through research
institutions supported by EAGER. This position requires temporary
assignment travel.
Required Skills:
1. Ph.D. in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Political
Economics, or Development Economics.
2. At least 10 years of work experience in international
development, with an emphasis on macro-economic analysis,
policy reform, and program management.
3. Excellent grasp of economic theory, research methodology
and applied analytic tools and skills, including technical
expertise in macro-economic and sectoral relationships, and
quantitative methods and policy analysis.
4. Excellent analytical, writing, and oral presentation skills.
5. Substantial experience in Africa.
Additional Skills Desired: French language capability at the
S-3/R-3 level.
