vetch varieties

My seed supplier called me today and said it appears that there is going
to be a shortage of hairy vetch seed for the upcoming year and the price
is going to be very high. He asked if "common vetch" is an alright
substitute for "hairy vetch". (the price is 1/2) Does anyone have any
experience or advise?
