Leadership in Sustainable Agriculture
The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Berea College seeks
an agricultural educator who can help provide leadership in the
development of a program in sustainable agriculture in a liberal arts
setting. Prefer Ph.D. in Horticulture, Agronomy, or Soils as well as
teaching experience for this tenure-track position. Experience in
sustainable production in Agronomy or Horticulture desirable.
Responsibilities include supervision of student workers and academic
advising. Rank open. Duties begin September, 1998 or sooner.
Berea College is a four-year institution devoted to undergraduate
education rooted in the liberal arts. The College's missions includes
special commitments to economically disadvantaged students of high
ability, the Appalachian region, interracial and intercultural education
and the development of perspectives and values deeply informed by the
Christian faith. Admitting only students of limited financial resources,
the College charges no tuition. The labor program, in which all students
participate, has long been a distinctive feature of a Berea education.
Though many students are the first in their families to attend college,
Berea ranks among the leading colleges in the South in percentage of
graduates who earn Ph.D. degrees.
The Agriculture and Natural Resources program has 110 majors enrolled in
two Bachelors programs. The Department manages diversified college farms
for classroom and labor use. It also has access to 8000 acres of College
forest and watershed land.
