Since I am also a "secret admirer" of Susan Snow and others, I would be
remiss if I didn't speak my peace first. While I have posted to this
list, tests results from sludge, MSW and landfill leachate, Susan and
others fail to comment on the fact that the finished compost both meets
and exceeds the Dutch Standards. These people have been offered compost
samples for their own testing and test data from 6 independent labs and
2 university labs. With these offers being made Susan and company, have
not once requested them even though there's no cost to them. Only one
skeptic, who I admire, and has fondly tagged me "Black Box" Phil, has
ever taken the time to investigate the facts. I for one, as a member of
WasteNotand the SECA/ICA, find this approach refreshingly admirable. The
fact that Jon may be passing information to Susan, doesn't bother me in
the least. It is Susan's incessant "hyper-hysteria" and lack of what the
Tin Man was looking for that concerns me the most. When a reactivist
activist spreads misinformation, pulls reports that don't even apply and
uses them out of context, while not taking the time to look at what's
being shown, this person is a hard shell "NUT" who not only needed to be
banned from this list but should absolutely have no resposibility for
public information dissemination. These kinds of people do a disservice
to the environmental community as a whole, and block real solutions to
real problems. As for Jon, I have reserved any judgement; the verdict is
still out. Myself and others, are waiting to see if he will transcend
the Susan Snow stereotype and ask for samples, independent verification
of quality and make a comment to the list when he compares this compost
with the Dutch Standards. Until then, we'll hold our opinion. To once
again post a quote familiar to all of us:
"There is a principle which is a bar against
all information, which is proof against all
arguments and which cannot fail to keep a
man in everlasting ignorance -- that prin-
ciple is contempt prior to investigation."
Herbert Spencer
One last thought, Susan Snow is like an EverReady battery in a Chatty
Kathy Doll. She keeps on going and going and going, while saying only
one thing when you pull her string. A doll with no programable features.
