Conference Announcement:

BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS IN SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE CONFERENCE

The future of agriculture in Vermont and New England will be the focus of a
conference called "Building Partnerships in Sustainable Agriculture" at the
Bolton Valley Resort on December 9 and 10, 1993.

The goal of the conference is to build partnerships among diverse groups to
move Vermont agriculture toward a more sustainable production system.
Participants will share experiences and learn about innovative techniques
and topics such as intensive rotational grazing and cover cropping. They
will also learn about government policy and how to develop mutually
supportive relationships between farmers, government agencies, and local
communities.

Keynote speaker will be Dr. Kate Clancy from Syracuse University. Dr.
Clancy is a nutritionist dedicated to improving public understanding of the
links between agriculture and healthy food, agriculture and hunger, and
agriculture and community viability. These relationships will be central
to workshops and panel discussions.

Farmers, researchers, extension workers, and state agency personnel will
attend the conference. All participants will share an interest in
sustaining and enhancing agriculture in Vermont that protects natural
resources and strengthens producers' economic stability. There will be
ample time for exchanging new information, ideas, and opinions. The public
is encouraged to attend.

The conference will be held on Thursday and Friday, December 9 and 10, at
the Bolton Valley Resort in Bolton, Vermont. Conference organizers include
representatives from the Northeast Organic Farming Association, the
Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program, Shelburne
Farms, the Soil Conservation Service, the University of Vermont Extension
System, the UVM Plant and Soil Science Department, the UVM Sustainable
Agriculture Initiative, the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, and the
Vermont Department of Agriculture, Food and Markets.
