SUBJECT: Sustainable Agricultural Conference
The first state-wide meeting of the Mississippi Sustainable
Agricultural Council will take place on November 16, 1993 at the
R & D Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Registration begins at 8:00
a.m. and the program is from 8:45 until 4:30 p.m.
The program will start with a video that highlights several
Mississippi farmers with their impressions of practical sustainable
agricultural practices. Presentations will be made by Yazoo County
farmer, Mr. Jim Whitfield, on "A Farmer's View of Sustainable
Agriculture", and Extension Forestry Specialists, Dr. Tom Monaghan,
on "Sustainable Forestry and Natural Resource Isssues". A keynote
address by Dr. John Ikerd, a nationally known sustainable
agriculture authority from Missouri, on "Thoughts About Sustainable
Agriculture" will challenge the group prior to the breakout
sessions.
Breakout sessions will be in part used to determine the need for a
Mississippi sustainable agriculture organization. It is the hope
of the program committee that this subject will interest a wide
variety of groups including: producers involved with row crops,
livestock, wildlife, forestry, horticulture as well as homeowners,
and the many organizations in the state that have interest in the
betterment of our environment.
Please know that you are encouraged to attend and participate in
this worthwhile project. Preregistration is $15.00 and site
registration is $20.00. This includes lunch and refreshments. For
