Postdoctoral Research Associate, two year position.
Soil Ecology

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in a field related to soil ecology such as entomology, plant
pathology, or forestry. Previous work experience with soil ecology
and/or soil microarthropods desired, but not required. Computer
and statistical analysis experience preferred.

Job Description:

Manage research program to monitor nematode and collembolan
communities in soils of forest, agricultural, and wetland
ecosystems in conjunction with available nitrogen and decomposition
of cellulose and lignin. The goal is to determine the utility of
these microorganisms as ecological indicators of soil condition for
use in a national monitoring program. Tasks will include intensive
soil sampling, extraction of nematodes and Collembola from soil,
identifying Collembola to taxonomic family, and supervising a
research technician. The selected individual will be housed in the
Dept. of Plant Pathology and work between two faculty, one in the
Dept. of Plant Pathology and the other in the Department of
Entomology.

Salary & Term:

$26,000 per year. Health benefits provided. Initial appointment
for 1 year, with likely extension to 2 years contingent on
performance.

Beginning Date:

November 1, 1993 or until suitable candidate is selected.
