Community-Supported Agriculture: a New Marketing Opportunity is a one-day
workshop and tour sponsored by the UC Sustainable Agriculture Research &
Education Program (SAREP), the UC Small Farm Center, the Community Alliance
with Family Farmers and UC Cooperative Extension. The workshop will be held
at UC Davis, (MU II) December 6, 1993. It will provide practical information
about how to start and manage a community-supported agriculture project.
Speakers will describe an overview of CSAs in the United States and
California in particular, different varieties of CSAs, benefits and risks,
and which issues must be considered before starting. The morning and part of
the afternoon will include presentations, questions and discussion with 3-4
growers who manage different types of CSAs. The afternoon will include an
optional tour of a local farm in the Capay Valley that runs a CSA. Farm
advisors and farmers are encouraged to attend. Look for announcements in
sustainable agric. newsletters in September. Registration forms will be out
in late October or November. For more information, contact: Gail Feenstra,
UC SAREP, (916) 752-8408.
