POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Working
Group Regional Organizer

The Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Working Group (NESAWG), a
regional network of farm, environmental, and consumer
organizations, is seeking a Regional Organizer. This is a half-time
position for the first year, with the expectation that the position
will become full-time in the second year.

The Regional Organizer will have primary responsibility for
staffing NESAWG's federal farm and food policy work, and will
assist other issue groups and work on member skills-building. Much
of the Regional Organizer's work will initially involve setting up
and staffing a series of local policy discussion meetings in the
nine state region (New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the six
New England states). A regional advocacy network will be developed
through these meetings and other networking activities. The
Regional Organizer will develop, staff, and activate this advocacy
network, in cooperation with the NESAWG Coordinating Committee and
issues committees.

NESAWG's goals include empowering farmers, consumers, and
environmentalists to win policy changes that will lead to
sustainable regional farm and food policies; regional networking;
and increasing the capacity of member groups to carry out essential
tasks such as grassroots organizing, public education, and
fundraising. NESAWG issues committees work on federal farm and food
policy, land grant university accountability, and marketing. NESAWG
is part of the National Sustainable Agriculture Dialogue, which is
coordinating development of a national farm and food policy agenda
that will be supported by a broad array of citizen organizations.

The Regional Organizer must be able to work independently as well
as effectively with a wide range of colleagues. Working knowledge
of sustainable ag issues required. Strong verbal and writing
communications skills are important. Grassroots organizing
experience highly desirable. Own car and ability to travel are
essential. Projected starting date is October 15 (negotiable).

Starting salary is $11,000 for half-time; with some benefits
included. Mileage reimbursed.

Send resume with a brief cover letter to Tim Atwater, Rural
Vermont, 15 Barre St., Montpelier, VT 05602. Deadline for
applications is October 1 or until position is filled.
