BARC is extensively involved in research on sustainable
agriculture and has recently initiated several new projects, one
of which is economic evaluation of sustainable agriculture
systems. The objective is to evaluate the profitability and
sustainability of sustainable agriculture systems and analyze the
trade-offs of switching from conventional to more sustainable
agricultural systems. Project duration is five years.
The individual would be employed through a cooperative agreement
with a university. This would be a full-time position and the
initial appointment would be one year, renewable annually
depending upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds
for the duration of the project.
The individual would work closely with the project leader and
other scientists at BARC to evaluate economic profitability of
the sustainable agricultural projects and to analyze other
national and regional issues related to sustainable agriculture.
Qualifications include a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in agricultural
economics with experience or major course work in resource
economics and agriculture-related fields, good oral and written
communications skills, good team member, and ability to work with
a multidisciplinary team of scientists.
