AN OPPORTUNITY TO INTEGRATE NUTRITION,
FOOD AND AGRICULTURE POLICY
US NATIONAL NUTRITION PLAN OF ACTION HEARING SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 4, 1993
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has scheduled a public
meeting on August 4, 1993 in Washington, DC for input to the U.S. Plan of
Action for Nutrition being written in response to the International Conference
on Nutrition (ICN). Both domestic and international policy will be addressed.
BACKGROUND:
The World Declaration on Nutrition and Global Plan of Action for Nutrition was
signed by 159 countries in Rome in December, 1992 at the ICN, the first global
intergovernmental conference on nutrition in over two decades. The scope of
the conference includes much of interest to groups concerned with food,
sustainable agriculture, environment and trade, as well as those working to
address the issues of health, hunger and poverty. The ICN Global Plan of
Action serves as the framework for country-specific, action-oriented
strategies to meet the challenges of the ICN.
This first public meeting called for the required U.S. Plan of Action to be
