FOREST PLAN LAUNCHED
The Administration's new forest plan for the Pacific
Northwest was announced July 1 by President CLINTON at a news
conference. The President stated the plan will strengthen the
economy, protect the environment, and provide a comprehensive,
long-term guide for development. The plan will also provide
jobs, and is scientifically sound, ecologically credible, and
legally defensible, he said. Interior Secretary BRUCE BABBITT
and Agriculture Secretary MIKE ESPY will visit the Pacific
Northwest to discuss the plan's implementation.
The plan is a joint effort of five Cabinet Departments:
Agriculture, Commerce, Interior, Labor, and the Environmental
Protection Agency. We are making additional information
available on almanac as documents 449 through 454. To obtain,
send message to almanac@esusda.gov. For example, to receive
document 449 in the body of the message, type: send white-house
