Subject: Vavilov's Ghost, SOUNDPRINT
Station: Internet Multicasting Service
Channel: Internet Talk Radio
Program: SOUNDPRINT
Release: July 2, 1993
Content: Vavilov's Ghost
The Internet Multicasting Service is pleased to announce that
we will be carrying SOUNDPRINT, the award-winning documentary
series, for the month of July on a test basis.
On this week's SOUNDPRINT,
Nikolai Vavilov, one of the world's pre-eminent plant
geneticists and plant collectors, left a legacy to the world:
important scientific theories about the origins of plants
and the largest seed collection ever amassed. Vavilov's
seed collection, an important genetic resource for the whole
world, is housed today in St. Petersburg, Russia, and is in
danger of degenerating. Producer Neenah Ellis visits the
collection to bring back the inspiring and tragic story of
Nikolai Vavilov.
We strongly encourage our listeners to send e-mail to
soundprt@jhuvms.hcf.jhu.edu. We are carrying the program on
an experimental basis and the producers of SOUNDPRINT would
like to know if anybody is listening. If it helps, there
is a brain teaser contest at the end of each of the programs
in July. Win fame and self-actualization by demonstrating
your creative instincts!
Support for "local" broadcast of SOUNDPRINT is provided by
Sun Microsystems and by O'Reilly & Associates.
Network connectivity for the Internet Multicasting Service is
provided by UUNET Technologies.
