The Pomology Extension Continuing Conference (PECC) in California has
formed a nitrate task force, designed to educate tree crop growers on how
to reduce nitrate leaching. Our first task will be to write a publication
on the subject.

I have been asked to write a chapter on cover cropping to reduce nitrate
leaching. In this chapter, I will also discuss the effects of various
cover crops and management strategies on tree nitrogen status.
Unfortunately, virtually all the work cited in the literature has involved
annual crops.

Does anyone have any information or ideas on cover cropping and nitrogen
uptake/availability in temperate zone orchards?

Thanks!
