0N-LINE DATA BASES FOR PESTICIDES
We have two suggestions:
1. Hazardous Substances Data Base (HSDB)
2. National Pesticide Information Retrieval System (NPIRS)

The Hazardous Substances Data Base (HSDB) is one of the databases
in TOXNET, operated by the National Library of Medicine. It is a
factual, non-bibliographic databank focusing upon the toxicology
of potentially hazardous chemicals. Data is derived from a core
set of standard texts and monographs, government documents,
technical reports and the primary journal literature. It contains
complete references for all data sources utilized. The file is
fully peer reviewed by the Scientific Review Panel.
An HSDB unit record contains information on substance
identification, manufacturing and use, chemical and physical
properties, safety and handling, toxicity/biomedical effects,
pharmacology, environmental fate/exposure potential, exposure
standards and regulation, monitoring and analysis methods, and
additional references.
Other on-line databases in TOXNET are:
CCRIS Chemical Carcinogenesis Research Information System
DART Development and Reproductive Toxicology
DBIR Directory of Biotechnology Information Resources
EMIC Environmental Mutagen Information Center
EMICBACK Environmental Mutagen Information Center Backfile
ETICBACK Environmental Teratology Information Backfile
GENE-TOX Genetic Toxicology
IRIS Integrated Risk Information System
RTECS Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances
TRI Toxic chemical Release Inventory
TRIFACTS TRI FACT sheets
ATSDR Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry
Toxicological Profiles

The National Pesticide Information Retrieval System (NPIRS)
located at Purdue University, is supported by the US Dept. of
Agriculture, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and 36 state
regulatory agencies. It provides key characteristics and other
data for pesticides registered with federal and state agencies.
NPIRS was developed to serve as a single, current source of
pesticide information for use by state and federal regulatory
personnel and pesticide-associated firms, consultants and
educational facilities. It covers more than 60,000 pesticide
products.
It provides access to the following:
1. Federal (EPA) Product Data Base
2. State Product Data Base
3. the Tolerance Index
4. Report from OPP (EPA Office of Pesticide Programs)
5. EPA Fact Sheets
6. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
7. Pesticide Document Management System (PDMS)
8. Registration Standards Data Tables
System information is also made available on CD-ROM as PEST-BANK,
which contains approximately 45,000 records dating form 1947 to
the present and is updated quarterly.
