Subject: Recycle Computers
Pass Them On!!!
EAST WEST EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION (EWF)
EWF's MISSION: EWF, an IRS-approved non-profit organization, recycles
used computers and donates them to educational, health, social service
and economic development organizations.
EWF's PURPOSE: To survive in the 21st Century's information economy,
individuals must be educated and equipped to compete in an arena of
boundless information and instantaneous decision-making. Access to
information also determines how successful organizations will be in providing
economic,educational and social service opportunities to consitituents. EWF
provides the computers and training necessary to gain access.
THE CHALLENGE: For today's "high-end" users, computers become dinosaurs
before a year is out. Manufacturers induce businesses to upgrade,
producing even shorter life spans for the "old" computers--and low
Federal law prohibits dumping, and few recycling opportunities exist.
So, stockpiles grow in corporate, government and university warehouses
across the land.
Alternately, there are thousands of organizations that cannot afford
computers. For them, a 286, 386 or Mac SE would be "leading edge."
The issue is how to recycle the computers efficiently and provide them
to those organizations affordably.
THE SOLUTION: EWF meets the technological needs of non-profits and
addresses the concerns of computer donors and sponsors.
Technology and Non-Profits...Donors recognize that technology aids
education; engenders efficiency; and, promotes broader economic success.
Recycling...EWF accepts all hardware-- regardless of condition--and
puts every usable part into "new" computers. Businesses can eliminate
equipment stockpiles. No monitor sees a landfill; metal is smelted;
plastic becomes asphalt; and, chips are reincarnated in games
Donors Designate Computer Recipients...Recipients are selected by
sponsors who contribute equipment or grants to EWF.
Equipment Is Warrantied...EWF ensures that computers meet recipients'
needs and provides training. And. every computer carries a 4 month warranty.
Fair Market Value for Tax Deductions...Approved by the IRS, EWF
provides documentation for tax-deductible gifts (including shipping costs)
HOW SPONSORS GIVE COMPUTERS TO NON-PROFITS:
1. Equipment Donors: Donors of 25-plus computers may - for a reduced
rate - designate recipients of the usable equipment they contribute.
2. Grants: Individuals, corporations and foundations may sponsor
computers through grants covering EWF's remanufacturing and shipping costs.
HOW NON-PROFITS APPLY FOR COMPUTERS:
Overview: provide a brief description of the organization's
purpose and programs;
Computer Project: describe the specific program(s) the computers
are requested for;
Non-Profit Status: provide proof of non-profit status; and,
Sponsorship: Indicate how computers will be sponsored.
Non-profits may sponsor themselves, or solicit grants from supporters,
businesses or foundations.
