ISSUE DEADLINE JULY 26!

The upcoming issue of The Green Disk -- a journal of contemporary
environmental issues published bimonthly on computer disk -- will
focus on Organic and Sustainable Agriculture. Many of the
environmental problems we face today are a direct effect of
industrial agriculture. The billions of pounds of pesticides
applied to the land each year contaminate wildlife, drinking
water and even breast milk. Not only is topsoil, water and
biodiversity squandered under this nonsustainable system, the
quality of community and even the food itself is diminished. In
the words of author and farmer Wendell Berry, "The food choices
we make each day affect the way agriculture operates. Each choice
can be considered a vote, either for the status quo of chemically
based conventional agriculture or for a shift to ecologically
based organic agriculture."

The next issue of The Green Disk will explore the link between
agriculture and the environment, and profile the emerging
worldwide movement towards organic, sustainable farming
practices. Submissions of articles and resource listings on this
topic are welcome.

Twenty-four research compendia, on subjects ranging from the
Decline of Global Fisheries to Environmental Endocrine
Disruptors, have been published to date. Regular features of each
issue disk keep our readers (activists, journalists and
educators) updated on a broad spectrum of environmental subjects,
informing them of publications and other media that have been
released recently, upcoming meetings and events, college
programs, employment opportunities and new developments in the
use of computers for research and activism.

If you are involved in a project you would like our readers to
know about, please send us a description, press release or
article via email, on disk or by surface mail.

GREENDISK GUIDE TO ENVIRONMENTAL COMPUTING v1.2
The guide -- recently featured in E Magazine -- contains over
1100 listings of World Wide Web Sites, listservs, online
databases, bulletin board services, software, educational
programs, CD-roms and datasets. The guide is published on disk in
Mac and IBM formats -- it is Boolean (and/or) keyword searchable,
saves 900 pages of paper and can be updated easily. We are now
offering six months of free updates via email, plus a review
issue of The GreenDisk Journal to buyers of the guide.

Send all submissions and inquiries to <greendisk@igc.apc.org>.

The deadline for the next issue is July 26!
