It seems that a number of people are frustrated because they believe that they
were signed up to this mailing list without them requesting it. If this is what
has occurred, I agree that would be wholly inappropriate. However, I got the
message too that I'd been signed up, but I don't think I've gotten any mail from
the list since then. I just figured that someone had sent the message around to
the SAN list because it contained information describing the direct-mkt mailing
list, *in case* people wanted to sign up. I still think that might be true,
given that people are reporting that they try to unsubscribe from the list and
are told that they aren't on the list.
I think it's time to identify what exactly happened here and let the SAN people
know. Were they subscribed to a list by someone else? (Then we ask that that
not occur again.) Or did someone just not think before they sent a note out?
The confusion and frustration at both lists is just growing right now, to
neither's benefit.
