Query on historic topsoil info

I've done some search on the web and around the office, but have been
unable to come up with some historic perspectives for a teacher wishing to
integrate soil into her elementary curriculum.

She's looking for:

Historic data about the amount of topsoil lost in U.S. in the last 50 to 75
years.

The amount of arable land in U.S. (and possibly Iowa) as compared with the
rest of the world.

ANy ideas where to track this down? Your time is much appreciated!
