POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT, Land Stewardship Project

TITLE: Southeast Minnesota Director
LOCATION: Lewiston, Minn.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: July 15, 1996

The Land Stewardship Project is looking for a creative and motivated lead staff
person for our southeast Minnesota programs and activities. LSP is a
Minnesota-based grassroots organization founded in 1982. LSP works with farmers
and rural citizens to foster an ethic of stewardship toward the land and water,
and to promote the development of a more economical, environmentally sound and
socially just agriculture. In southeast Minnesota, primary areas of work are:
developing alternative markets for sustainably raised products; challenging
expansion of factory farms; promoting profitable and ecologically sound farming
practices; helping young farmers get started farming; urging banks to offer
affordable farm credit; finding access to land and affordable credit; broadening
the membership base of the organization; and curbing urban sprawl.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate fundraising activities for the office,
including soliciting contributions, membership recruitment campaigns, special
events, grantwriting and grant reporting. Staff committees of members that set
local direction for the organization. Develop office budget and workplan. Serve
as liaison between LSP and other non-profits and natural resource agencies.
Represent southeast Minnesota office on statewide LSP management team. Supervise
four part-time staff and interns. Coordinate media relations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Administrative experience with non-profit organization.
Commitment to land stewardship ethics, the family farm and rural community
vitality. Supervisory experience. Successful grant proposal writing and
fundraising skills. Understanding of community organizing and experience
staffing boards and committees. Ability to get members involved in
organizational work and to work with diverse groups of people. Solid verbal and
written communication skills and compiter competency. Should be outgoing, have a
good sense of humor, enjoy working with rural people, and be skilled at working
in a team setting.

SALARY & BENEFITS: This is a full-time position. $25,000 to $33,000 depending on
background and experience. Full health and dental benefits.
