JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Position: Program Director
Location: Walthill, Nebraska
Reports to: Board of Directors
Application deadline: applications must be received by the Center no later than
Aug. 15, 1996

The Program Director is responsible for interpreting the Center's mission and
communicating it to the public; identifying trends and issues that relate to the
Center's mission; developing and implementing programs related to the mission,
and articulating them in a cohesive way; generating the resources to support
those programs; hiring, supervising, and developing the Center staff; deploying
resources to fit changing priorities; anticipating and defining major policy
decisions about the organization and its mission; coordinating all of the above
through a Program Council and with the Administrative Director.

The Center for Rural Affairs is a private, nonprofit Nebraska corporation, tax
exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code.

Mission Statement. The Center is committed to rural communities that stand for
social justice, economic opportunity, and environmental stewardship. The Center
encourages people to accept both personal and social responsibility, and
provides opportunities for people to participate in the decisions that shape the
qualify of their lives and the future of their communities. The Center engages
in research, education, advocacy, and service work to further its vision of
rural America.

The Program Director reports to and works in partnership with a board of
directors and is responsible for development and program management. The
organization has a $1.4 million budget, and a staff of 25.
