Field Days to Highlight AgroForest Wisconsin Project

Demonstration plots showing three stages of an agroforest operation will be
featured at a Field Day Saturday, June 1, at Sunnyhill Acres in Sheboygan
County, Wisconsin.

The demonstration project, known as AgroForest Wisconsin, is being developed
under a partial grant from the the Sustainable Agriculture Program of the
Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Plots on
display include hayland planted to tree seedlings; a mature forest that has been
thinned and seeded in alfalfa; and a midterm site with saplings protected for
pasturing. Other events and exhibits on site will highlight various aspects of
agroforestry and of Sunnyhill AcresÕ diversified land-use regimen, which
includes production of lambs, wool, fuelwood, and maple syrup.

AgroForest Wisconsin seeks to demonstrate how forage and wood products can be
produced on the same acres at the same time, maximizing profitability while
minimizing environmental impact. The production systems it demonstrates are seen
as particularly applicable to lands coming out of the federal conservation
reserve program.
