As a former resident of Greenbelt, Md and also as someone with a long
standing interest in the role of the left in US politics, I want to thank
William Lockeretz for his short history lesson posted on SANET, 5/11/96.

Some of us--more than are willing to admit, perhaps--in today's sustainable
agriculture movement have our roots in an earlier movement that manifested
itself is so many forms, not the least of which was the Farm Security
Administration and the Greenbelts, Arthurdales and other intentional
communities that Lockeretz described so well.

Thanks, again, Mr. Lockeretz. You have reminded me so thoughtfully in this
day of "bottom line" concerns that we should acknowledge the contributions
made by the individuals in an earlier radical movement, learn from their
mistakes to be sure but be inspired by their vision of a better world.
