POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT ***** UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND AT COLLEGE PARK


POSITION: Faculty Research Assistant in the Department of Agronomy. The
Faculty Research Assistant will provide technical support to a research
agronomist directing the Farming Systems Project (FSP) located at the
Beltsville Agriculture Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland. The FSP was
established to provide a research setting in which to compare the
sustainability of different systems of field crop production in the Middle
Atlantic region.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The purpose of this position are the operation of a
small analytical research lab and the collection of soil and plant samples
from field research plots.

DUTIES: The lab duties include the analysis of soil and plant samples using
automated analytical procedures and the computerized management of data.
The field work includes varied duties necessary to the maintenance of field
crops on research plots and the collection and processing of soil and plant
samples.

QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. degree or M.S. degree in Soil Science or related
agricultural or biological science, have an interest in sustainable
agriculture research, and have the ability to plan and carry out work
requirements on schedule under the general guidance of the project director.
Applicants with experience working in a field research environment and
experience of course work in analytical chemistry are especially encouraged
to apply.

SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications ($22,000 to $25,000 per
year). Position includes medical insurance and tuition remission for
individuals interested in pursuing a part-time graduate program. This is a
Contract Position (12 months, renewable).
