Hello All,

I'm a gruduate student at Yale School of Forestry and Env. Studies, doing
research on sustainable agriculture and the statutory/regulatory
constraints which limit adoption and success of sustainable farming
practices. I have a personal interest in the issue, as I am interested in
taking over my grandparents' 212 acre farm in SE Minnesota.

I have diverse questions and will be posting them (2 at a time) to sanet-mg
over the next week or so. I would love to hear back from a wide audience.

4/7/96 QUESTION 1 IN THREE PARTS:
--Has anyone seen/written an analysis of the 1995 Farm Bill (FTFA) and its
implications for: sustainable ag
small farmers
conventional farmers; and

--Can sustainable ag. claim any victories in the new farm bill; and

--What features of the bill will favor agribusiness/industry/conventional
farming to the detriment of sustainable ag?

4/7/96 QUESTION 2:
--What other statutes or policies represent significant barriers to the
wider adoption of sustainability as a way of planning and farming.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and info.

Sincerely,

Matthew J. Norton
