Hello sanet folks:
This question is related to Steve Diver's on energy costs for
transportation of food versus other costs.

What is the cost (energy and dollars) for offering a bushel of
apples grown in New York State, and stored with controlled atmosphere (CA)
storage, versus a bushel of apples grown in Chile (Or New Zealand) and
shipped to New York?

Assumptions: Use of CA for four months (to January, for example)
Use "standard" 1995 technology for CA storage

Shipping by boat to LA, by truck (or alternatively, train) from LA to New York.

If anyone has suggestions or references, I would appreciate them. Thank you.
Steve
