POSITION DESCRIPTION (brief description of duties and responsibilities):
The Leopold Center is a research and education center with responsibility
for identifying and reducing negative impacts of agricultural practices,
assisting in the development of alternative practices, and conveying
research results to the public. The Center seeks an individual with strong
writing, editing, computer, and verbal communication skills to present
scientific research results in written form for various audiences.
Specific responsibilities include: interacting with university-level
faculty and other researchers to write semi-technical articles and
summaries of research; adapting scientific reports by grant recipients into
formats useful to the general public; designing and editing special
publications; overseeing production of annual reports and conference
proceedings; and assisting other staff in dissemination of information
about Center programs. Writing ability and strong interpersonal skills are
essential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor's degree in English, Agricultural Journalism,
Technical Writing, or Communications. Clear evidence of superior writing,
editorial skills. Strong computer skills in word processing, page layout,
and electronic communication. Three years experience in science writing,
academic research reporting, or agricultural journalism. Strong
interpersonal skills.
Preferred: Experience working with faculty scientists and
educators at a major research university, preferably in agricultural or
environmental science areas. Expertise in and/or knowledge of electronic
communications technology, familiarity with the land-grant university
system, familiarity with Midwest agriculture, demonstrated creativity in
publication and communications strategies.
PROPOSED START DATE: August 1, 1996
MINIMUM SALARY: $25,140, salary commensurate with experience and qualifications
