Conversion of CRP Land to Organic Farming Conference Scheduled for April 10,
1996 in Canby

(Canby) Producers with CRP land coming out of contract will have an
opportunity to learn about the option of converting some of that land to
organic production. Some producers may be interested since domestic and
international sales of organic products have been growing at 20-30% per
year.

Details of organic production, certification and marketing will be covered
in a conference to be held at the facilities of the SW Technical College in
Canby. Speakers will include local farmers with years of organic production
experience will give their ideas about what works in SW Minnesota.

Representatives of organic certification agencies will explain the
certification process and several organic grain marketing firms will explain
the requirements and demand of the current market.

This conference is cosponsored by the Coteau Chapter of the Sustainable
Farming Association and the Energy and Sustainable Agriculture Program of
the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA).

The $10 registration fee for the one-day conference includes lunch. Please
pre-register by April 5th.
