With grants from the University of California Sustainable Agriculture
Research and Education Program (UC-SAREP) and the UC-Davis Graduate
Division, I conducted a written survey of consumer shareholders at existing
CSA operations in California in the summer of 1995. With assistance from 4
CSA farmers, I compiled a 4 page survey which includes questions on
motivations to join, preferences about shares and prices, alternative
sources of produce, level of interaction with the farm, core group
participation, and household demographics. I received 235 responses from
members of 10 different CSA's throughout California and have compiled the
results in a 12 page paper.
I would be glad to share this paper with anyone interested in consumer
attitudes towards Community Supported Agriculture. You can get it one of
two ways:
(1) I will e-mail it to you. I can send it straight up, or PKZIPPED and
UUENCODED. I can also either send a binary or text version. I wrote it in
AmiPro, so if you're using another word-processing software, the tables may
be fairly hard to read. But you're welcome to try. Just send an e-mail
request directly to me and how you want it (I've saved it in some other
word-processing formats like WP and MS Word as well), and I'll send it along.
(2) I will mail you a hard copy of the paper and blank survey. I am no
longer in the grant-filled world of academia, so I would appreciate if you
could send two dollars to cover my cost of photocopying and mailing. I
promise that I won't run off to Tahiti with your money.
Thanks,
Gerry Cohn
